Signs Your Daughter is as Softball Player

I was helping Eliza Claire clean up in her room this weekend.  We were cleaning out her closet, getting rid of all her shoes that were too small.  She came to a pair outgrown cleats.  She asked if she could keep them.  She said they had lots of special memories.  They were the cleats from her last year of 8U All Stars and first season of 10U fall ball.  I agreed that she could keep them.

Eliza Claire started to put them back in her closet.  I asked her to hand them too me.  I thought about putting them on her bookcase but then I had a better idea. I tied the laces together and hung them over the rod where a quilt hangs in her room.  She thought that was an awesome place for them.  I remarked that we really should clean them off.  She was emphatic that we were  not going to do that.

Blast from the Past

I happened to read our individual descriptions on the left side of the blog and realized they were just a little bit out of date.  I have updated them to better reflect everyone's current interests.  However, I realized it was fun to look back on where we were.  Here are the old descriptions.  The best I can tell they are from the summer of 2011. This means the kids were 10, 7, 4, and 4.

This is what happens when two math geeks marry and have four kids!

Jenn
I no longer work outside the home. This is a new endeavor as I spent the last five years working part time for my church. I love to cook, take photos and blog. I hate doing laundry and dishes. I love a good novel, but am not much on non-fiction or literature. I love my kids and being a mom.

Sam-I-Am
Our firstborn who died at birth. He was our sweet red-headed baby boy. He may not be with us on earth but that makes him no less part of our family. We miss and love him very much.

The Grinch
Our oldest son Rehm. He is my walking encyclopedia. He loves Harry Potter, the ocean, space, science, Pokemon, Phineas and Ferb and anything that has a screen. He loves to know why and how things work.

Cindy Loo Who
Our oldest daughter. She is the most empathetic girl I know. She loves school, playing with her little sisters and all things social. She is as stubborn as her mother, especially when dealing with her mother.

Thing 1
Our feisty second daughter. She is very dramatic. Her world is one of extremes. She loves to dress up and to play Barbies.

Thing 2
Our cautious third daughter. She is very sensitive and likes to do things in her own way and own time. She loves to play sports and loves cars and tracks and seeing how things work together.

Country Music and Family Time

On the way home from celebrating Rehm's birthday at Chuy's (how is it possible that he is 14 today?), the song You Never Even Called Me by My Name by David Allen Coe came on the radio. Of course, Michael and I proceeded to sing along quite loudly.

When we got about one line into the last verse, you know, "I was drunk the day my mom got out of prison," Eliza Claire exclaimed, "Oh, dear!" which had us all laughing and Michael and I singing even louder.

After the song was over I told the kids they better come get me from prison before "I got ran over by the danged ole train." Rehm quips, "Mom, I believe the lyrics are, and I quote 'Damned ole train.'" I took this opportunity to let him know I was quite aware of what the lyrics were and he needed to get over himself, etc, etc, etc, and that he wasn't being cute or funny by cussing by quoting song lyrics. At this point, Eliza Claire pipes up with, "cuss, cuss, cuss, cuss, cuss, cuss, cuss!" Her timing and delivery could not have been more perfect and once again we all dissolved into laughter. It appears that the new "four letter word" at our house is literally "cuss!"
